Imagine, Innovate and Inspire

“Innovation is seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” –Dr. Albert, Szent- Györgyi

Everyone has the capacity to be innovative and creative in their day-to-day work. Sometimes all it takes is a spark to get the ideas flowing. Keeping this in mind, we challenged the Grade 5 students through a cross curricular Makers Design Project wherein they could develop their understanding of how Engineers create things for a better world and design a device with some path breaking features so that the Titanic- the Unsinkable Ship- actually becomes ‘Unsinkable’.

This project was to enable the students to enhance their innovative skills. This was a cross curricular Maker’s Project integrating Science, Math, Art and Craft with English Literature. Initially, students were encouraged to research how ships work which sparked some really insightful discussions among the students. They discussed collaboratively and then started their journey of giving shape to their ideas. They took this challenge head on. After many repeated failures and determination, students finally came up with their innovative designs.

Keeping sustainability in mind, students used cardboards, empty tissue rolls, plastic bottles and other waste materials to create little ‘wonders from waste’. Let us have a closer look at how our students turned their dream into reality.
