E - Waste To Robots
"Give e-waste a second chance, recycle for a sustainable advance!"
The term "e-waste" is an abbreviation of "electronic waste". A key part of the definition is the word "waste" and what it logically implies – that the item has no further use and is rejected as useless or excess to the owner in its current condition.
Third Graders Turn E-Waste into STEM Learning Robots
The students of grade 3 recently showcased their innovative spirit and commitment to sustainability by transforming discarded electronics into functional robots. This hands-on project, led by Ms. Reena Fernades and supported by all other grade 3 teachers , provided a unique opportunity for students to explore the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) while learning about the importance of recycling and responsible waste management.
The project began with a discussion about the environmental impact of e-waste and the potential for repurposing these materials. Students were then tasked with brainstorming ideas for robots they could build using discarded components like circuit boards, wires, motors, and even old cell phone parts.
The process of creating the robots fostered creativity and innovation as students experimented with different designs and functionalities. They learned about basic circuitry, motor mechanics, and programming concepts, all while developing their problem-solving skills.
The final creations were a testament to the students’ ingenuity and resourcefulness.
