Tinkering with AI: Machine Learning at Mayoor Private School

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” – Peter Drucker

Our Grade 8 students brought this idea to life with their exciting project, classifying images using the Machine Learning for Kids platform. They trained a model with images of fruits—apples, bananas, and oranges—collecting and labeling the images to teach the AI. The model even displayed confidence percentages, showing how sure it was about each prediction.

The students then took their project a step further by integrating the trained model into MIT App Inventor, creating an interactive app that allows users to see AI in action in real time. This process gave them hands-on experience with both AI concepts and app development, demonstrating how models can learn from data and make real-world decisions.

As AI is an integral part of our lives, learning how to work with it is essential for the future. Our students are not just learning theory—they are actively implementing AI through hands-on projects. By exploring how models can make predictions and interact with real-world applications, they develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, preparing them to use technology responsibly and creatively.

This project was more than coding—it was a journey of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. By combining the Machine Learning for Kids platform with app development, the students turned their ideas into a functional, AI-powered application, inspiring others to experiment, tinker, and explore the possibilities of AI.

Through these projects,  our students are not only learning about the technology of today but also building the skills and mindset to create the solutions of tomorrow.
