Great Minds At Work

In the words of John Mc Donald, “There must be a positive and negative in everything in the universe in order to complete a circuit or circle, without which there would be no activity, no motion”

Electric things are so much part of our lives!  Gaining a current understanding of how electricity works and what it does is vital life learning.  Our emerging and investigative engineers of grade 6 were immensely engaged in learning the same, through a few interactive projects based on circuits.

Our budding engineers  learnt the basics of building a series and parallel circuits.  By  the end of the activity they gained immense practical knowledge on LEDs, batteries, resistors, switches, board wiring, and spin circuits. The main activity  was to learn about  the difference between the two (series has one path for the electricity to flow, whereas parallel has two or more paths).Students also had to be able to use their analytical skills to determine if the light bulbs would glow or not. If one is broken, what happens to the other?  If switch A is open, and switch B is closed, which light bulbs are on and which are off?

After many days of dedicated hard work and determination after repeated failures , these students were finally able to make their world glow. Let’s take a closer look at the reviews from the students and the teacher herself  through the following video to get a better idea about their engineering  journey into circuits.

Reflection:

As wisely said by Richard Branson- "You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over."

  •  It was their journey into learning electronics through interactive circuit activities.

  • They discovered an amazing world of science and engineering and also understood their relationship with it in their everyday lives.

  • This activity gave the students a basic mastery about scientific concepts.

  • It  motivated them to learn and enhance their perception through creativity and logic.

  • The most valuable lesson they learnt above all was to tackle failure and know that failure is success turned inside out.
